It examines new covenant formation, life under the new covenant, and eschatological fulfillment of the goals of the new covenant, which also fulfills the eschatological trajectory of all the divine-human covenants taken together in God’s plan of redemption.

Their “probation” could not have led to eternal life because the Mosaic covenant did not promise eternal life. This is yet another aspect of the material/spiritual contrast that has been noted between the old and new covenants.
